Scripture Union Daily Guide 30th April 2025 Outline

In some cultures, daughters are not considered for inheritance, even if all children are females. The case of the daughters of Zelophehad was first mentioned in Numbers 27:1-11. Read it. What was God’s command on inheritance for the female heirs? What was the fear of the chief fathers of the children of Gilead concerning giving inheritance to the daughters of Zelophehad?

Inheritance of property has been an age long problem; example was the case of Naboth and King Ahab (1 Kings 21:15-16). In contemporary time, cases of inheritance abound in law courts. Comfortable children of same parents have fought to death on equitable sharing of their parent’s properties.

The caution of Jesus in Luke 12:13-15 tells much of what is behind the fight for inheritance in our time. How was the fear of the chief fathers of Gilead resolved (Numbers 36:6-8)? For these chief fathers, greed was not the issue. They wanted to be sure that their inheritance was not transferred to another tribe through intermarriage (Numbers 36:2-4). These issues were resolved by God Himself through Moses (Numbers 36:10). Can the Church today stand in the gap as Moses did to mediate on matters of inheritance?

And So:
Remember that one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he has.
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer:
Lord, deliver me from greed and covetousness.
