Scripture Union Daily Guide 30th July 2025 Outline
It was a positive development for Israel to become united to deal with the problem of outrageous sin in their midst as required in Deuteronomy 13:12-18. They gathered “from Dan to Beersheba” at Mizpah (Judges 20:1); which had been an important meeting-place in times past (Judges 10:17). Note the vast number of soldiers that gathered, 400,000 (Judges 20:2), which underscore the seriousness of the crime. The leaders of the people inquired of what happened (Judges 20:3).
Notice how the Levite whose concubine was killed reported the event (Judges 20:4-7). Why did he fail to report that he handed his concubine over to the men of Gibeah to abuse? Similarly, many of us are economical with truth. We only present half-truths to suit our purpose. We need to repent of this.
After hearing the report, the men of Israel agreed that none of them would go back home until this matter was dealt with (Judges 20:8). Notice those who were exempted and why (Judges 20:9-10)? The men of Israel were “united as one man” to deal with the evil (Judges 20:1,11). A good example for the church to follow.
And So
The Church of Christ can only win her fight against the onslaught of wickedness if we are united.
