Scripture Union Daily Guide 4 January 2025 Outline:
The entire Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) is Christ’s standard and guide for lifestyle in the Kingdom of God. Today, we look at the Beatitudes. In the Bible passages such as Matthew 5:1-12, Luke 6, and Psalms 1, the word “Blessed” means “happy.” The Beatitudes teach about “a happy God and His offer of a deep abiding happiness in Christ that begins now and goes on forever.” The Beatitudes describe the lifestyle and character of a follower of Jesus. “Jesus describes the special favour of God towards His people, both physically and spiritually and the consequences of living within that favour.”
In these Beatitudes, Jesus Christ offers us eight ways to become like Him. Note the context and the rewards for living out each of the eight Christ-like lifestyles and characters in the passage. For example, the context of poverty (Matthew 5:3) is ‘in spirit’ i.e. all who have the humility to realize their need of Christ and who are unashamed to have a deep personal relationship with Christ, gain God’s kingdom. All who mourn for their sins and have their hearts pierced by other people’s grief will receive Christ’s comfort (Matthew 5:4).
The goal in life for the believer would be to grow in every way more and more like Christ, in showing in greater measure, the lifestyle and character listed in the Beatitudes. How do you personally measure up in living according to these standards?

* The retreat to be an avenue of renewal of vision and strength for every one of them • Them not to take this retreat for granted, rather, they will be focused and open to get the best out of it • Travelling mercies as they all journey to Ibadan. • Peace in their life’s and homes this year, so that they will fully concentrate on the work
