Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 4 October 2023
See Isaiah’s description of the temple in heaven when he looks upward. He portrays God’s holiness in his description of the seraphim’s song (vs.1-4). Although, he has been prophesying all this while, he does not seem to have a proper knowledge of the Lord. How much like many of us? How deep and broad is your knowledge of the Almighty? Isaiah’s perception of his unworthiness when he looks inward (v 5) is common to anyone who gets a glimpse of God’s glory.
Remember Manoah and his wife (Judges 13:22), Daniel (10:7-9), Ezekiel (1:28b), John (Revelation 1:17) and Paul (Acts 9:3-9). Whenever we encounter God genuinely, we must come to a better appreciation of our true condition, our need of forgiveness and the eternal life that He has given us in Christ. The seraph’s touch with a live coal is a symbol of God’s cleansing touch on us (vs.6,7).
Read v.8a and Matthew 9:37. How do you feel about the truth contained in these verses? The harvest is still very plentiful, and God is still looking for people to send into the harvest field. What can we learn from Isaiah’s response (v.8b)?
What can you say about God’s message to His people in vs.9-11? Note also the message of hope in v.13.
Practice/Word Application
So what? God is calling now, will you also answer, “here am I, send me”?
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer
Pray that you may be sensitive to God’s voice, whether through reading His word, hearing from His servants, or in whatever means He chooses.
