Scripture Union Daily Guide 4th February 2025 Outline

Jesus called out His disciples and gave them the power to do miracles just as they saw Him doing. Jesus did not use the powers at any time for financial gains and popularity as we often see today in our Christian community and in the various media.

Matthew gives us the full list of the twelve disciples (Matthew 10:2-4). They were from a diversity of vocations. Whatever your vocation, Jesus needs your service. Judas had a stigma as the one who betrayed Jesus. For what will people remember you when you move somewhere else or after your death?

The power that Jesus gave His disciples also could cater to their other needs. Note the clear instructions about money, clothing, and protection (Matthew 10:7-10). The context at that time is certainly different from today’s but the principles still apply. Church workers and religious leaders need to be sustained so that they can devote their time to preaching the gospel and ministering to the spiritual and emotional needs of their congregations.

However, religious leaders should also avoid emulating political leaders in their lifestyles, thereby placing undue burdens on their followers. People should give generously and willingly as they have been led by God, not out of compulsion or undue pressure.
