OPENING PRAYER: Grant me depth of insight, revelation and knowledge as I meditate on this passage, O Lord.

Scripture Union Daily Guide 7 October 2024 Outline:
King Saul had good reason to worry. Look at the sorry state of Israel and their army in vs.19-23! The Philistines, on the other hand, were equipped with the latest military technology (v.5). Even before the enemy arrived, his soldiers were deserting. True, he had God on his side, but God’s special agent was nowhere to be found (v.8)!
If only King Saul had waited a little longer (v.10)! It is an all-too-common human mistake. Can you think of instances in your life when you lost your patience in this way only to regret it and wish you had waited a little longer before taking a decision you latter regretted? In Saul’s case, it had far-reaching consequences (vs.13-14).
God is always dependable. We only need to be sure we hear him correctly, because sometimes we try to hold on to something He did not actually say to us! Once we are absolutely sure, however, all we need to do is to wait. He will keep His word, but it will be in His own good time (Psalm 27:14; Isaiah 64:4).

Thought: God’s clock is never slow. The problem is that ours is running too fast!

‣ Churches to open their doors for S.U. members for the awareness
‣ The Holy Spirit’s presence to convict and convert the unsaved
