The ministry of Jesus Christ was accompanied with a demonstration of power and authority; in His teaching (Luke 4:32), in casting out demons (Luke 4:33-35) and in healing the sick (Luke 4:39-40). Notice how He spoke with authority and its effects on His audience (Luke 4:36-37). He was recognized by demons as “the Holy One of God” (Luke 4:34) and “the Son of God” (Luke 4:41) and demons were obedient to Him.
The Church has been commanded to demonstrate God’s power while preaching the gospel (Mark 16:15-18; John 14:12). But the Church of our day is far from doing this unlike the early Christians (Mark 16:19-20). How can we demonstrate God’s power in our neighbourhoods, so we can attract more people to the Lord?
What impact do you think the mere visit of Jesus to Peter’s house and ministering healing to his mother-in-law made on Peter’s family (Luke 4:38-39)? Do we care enough for our subordinates’ wellbeing, to visit and minister to their needs?
Although Jesus was a very busy man, He made out time to commune with God in a quiet place (Luke 4:42; cf. Luke 6:12). This was the secret of power and authority! How we all need to emulate this! What can we learn from Jesus’ statement in Luke 4:43 in these days of serious competition between ministries?
