Daily Guide Devotional For Today 8th October 2024 (Tuesday)
TOPIC: GOD AT WAR!
OPENING PRAYER: May my heart, O Lord, be receptive to your word as I meditate on it.
SCRIPTURE: 1 SAMUEL 14.1-23
Question(s) for Reflection
* Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 8 October 2024 Outline:
Here we see an example of what God can do against the enemy. Jonathan had the faith and spiritual insight (v.6), which his father lacked as we saw in the previous chapter. He did not have a priest with him (compare vs.18-19), and so he sought God’s guidance in the way he knew (vs.8-12). God rewarded that faith in a spectacular manner (v.15)!
The Philistines were routed, and even the Hebrew deserters who had joined them and the soldiers who had gone to hide with the women came back to fight with their clubs and farming implements, since they lacked swords and spears (compare 13:19-22).
God is always able to fight for those who trust in Him alone for their protection (Isaiah 59:1; Nahum 1:7). However, they are many instances today when we see the people of God molested, attacked, and killed only because they are Christians, but God does not seem to do anything about it! Is it perhaps, like He did for Israel of old, He allows unbelievers to punish us for our sins? Perhaps the answer is in Psalm 73.
For Further Study
For further study: Compare Psalm 73 with Isaiah 59.
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer
Thank you, Lord, for always honouring our faith, however little!
