Scripture Union Daily Guide 8th April 2025 Outline

David in the previous chapter would not avenge himself by touching the Lord’s anointed. But on this occasion, he was angry enough to want to unleash vengeance on Nabal and kill the guilty together with the innocent instead of allowing God to do it. Note the role Abigail played to restrain David and protect her husband and the entire household from David’s anger (1 Samuel 25:24-31). She displayed a high level of spiritual wisdom with humility (like Esther) and succeeded in averting David’s anger.

God is the best avenger! Notice how He finally inflicted His appropriate judgment on Nabal, sparing David the guilt of bloodshed (1 Samuel 25:36-38). You cannot do this business of vengeance better than God. If you are being mistreated, desist from taking the law into your hand. Rather take it to God in prayer. He will vindicate you in His good time.

Read 1 Samuel 25:39-42 and see how a sad experience in your life can be turned into long term good if you leave vengeance with God. Do you think Abigail would have accepted to marry David if he had killed the husband?

* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer:
Lord, give me a wise and understanding heart to be a blessing to my family.
