Scripture Union Daily Guide 8th April 2026 – Outline
Our memories can fail us many a time, more so in a society where messages were passed on by oral tradition. Jeremiah had to get the message out and ensure that they remember as commanded by the Lord (Jeremiah 36:1-2). Notice God’s promises to forgive if they repent (Jeremiah 36:3). God invites us also to constant self-examination as we read the scripture. With Jeremiah in prison, the message had to be delivered even though the messenger was restricted.
Jeremiah did not find excuses for not passing on the message. He knew that each one has a part to play. Baruch played his part in fulfilling the assignment. Compare this with 1 Corinthians 12:4-12,25. We all have a part to play in passing on the gospel message. If those in the persecuted Church are committed to sharing their faith just like Jeremiah, the rest of us must rise to the challenge.
Baruch may have known that his life would be endangered by conveying the message. His master was already in prison, but he was obedient to the calling. We too must learn obedience even at the risk of our life. Notice how the people responded to God’s word in Jeremiah 36:11-16. How do you respond to God’s word when you hear or read it?
