Scripture Union Daily Guide 8th May 2025 Outline

Paul now comes to his fifth and last argument in today’s passage. During Roman times, young boys put on robes for young people but when they became adults, they would put on an adult robe called toga. Paul likens being baptised as a Christian to putting on Christ-like robes that marked adulthood for all. It is like ‘wearing’ Christ so that whether male or female only Christ is seen. That is why for Paul, gender, status, race, or colour are irrelevant (Galatians 3:28).

We are all equal before the Lord. How do you respond to women leadership in the church? If we yearn for the law, we are like underage children who have no rights or authority but must be looked after by guardians until they come of age to exercise such rights or authority (Galatians 3:1-2).

At the fullness of time, Jesus Christ the son of God came and fulfilled all the demands of the law for us so that we might get full adoption as children of God (Galatians 4:4-7) and when we are children of God, we are also heirs with Christ. We can freely call God, Father or more intimately, “Abba” (the Aramaic familiar term for father, similar to “Daddy”, Galatians 4:6). That is the reason Paul was puzzled by Galatians because they appear to shun the great offer of family relationship with Jesus Christ the Redeemer.
