Scripture Union Daily Guide 9 APRIL 2024 OUTLINE
God promises to bless the descendants of Jacob (Israel): “I will pour . . . my blessing on your descendants” (v.3). Read v.3 carefully and note how God intends to do this. God will pour his Spirit on us (the offspring of Jacob). The Holy Spirit in the life of the believer is like refreshing water on land which is thirsty, or a dry ground. Without God’s Spirit, we are unfruitful, barren, and dry; but when the outpouring of the Holy Spirit graciously falls on us, we spring up with new life. We are renewed, “like grass in a meadow, like poplar trees by flowing streams” (v.4). The Lord promises renewal by His Spirit to all who identify with Him: “I belong to the Lord” (v.5).
We are assured of the Lord’s blessing on our lives because of who He is: the incomparable God, “apart from me there is no God” (v.6). Therefore, we are urged not to tremble or be afraid, because there is no God besides the Lord, “No, there is no other Rock; I know not one” (v.8). Indeed, there is no greater blessing we can receive than the renewal in our inner being which the Holy Spirit grants to those who seek Him. May we remain ever blessed in Jesus!

Closing Prayer
Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on us, and kindle in us the renewal we need to bear abundant fruit in our daily lives.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalms 119:114
“Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word.”
