Scripture Union SU Daily Guide 3 June 2021 – Giving That Pleases God
READ SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE OUTLINE FOR THURSDAY 3RD JUNE 2021.
TOPIC: GIVING THAT PLEASES GOD
Opening Prayer: Sanctify my life dear Lord as I study your word in Jesus name.
Scripture: 1 Chronicles 29:1-19
Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit? • Is there any prayer for me to remember?
King David had in mind to build a magnificent temple for the Lord. He spent many years assembling building materials and organizing the people to work on the building. In addition, as he realized his end was near, he bequeathed his personal wealth consisting of gold and silver to be used to decorate the building.
Furthermore, he challenged the clan leaders, army officers and other administrators to follow his example by pledging more donations. What a challenge for our leaders in politics and in the church, who often grab and amass wealth from public funds for their personal use? King David’s response to the people’s freewill offering was to give praise to God as he led them in a prayer of thanksgiving (vs.10-19).
Notice the King’s chief concerns in his prayers. Underscore phrases in his prayers that you might want to make part of your daily prayers. The truth that all we have belongs to God (vs.14&16) is the basis of Christian stewardship. We will give account of our stewardship one day before God.
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer
• O God, remind me always that all I have belong to you. May I give freely as I have been given. • Pray to walk in the power that raised Jesus from the dead.
