TOPIC: GOD RESPONDS TO SINCERE SACRIFICES
OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, I pray that you order my steps today through your word as I meditate on it.
SCRIPTURE: 1 Chronicles 21:20-30
Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit? • Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
Take note that it was God who told David, through Gad, what to do to stop the raging plague (vs.18-19). This is a display of God’s mercy. He will never abandon us to our fate. When he punishes, it is only to teach us a lesson (Hebrews 12:7-9). He will always make a way for us out of our calamities.
Read vs.22-25 again. What can we learn from Araunah and David about our services to God? Both Araunah and David present us with good examples of how to serve God. Araunah willingly offered to give the King everything he needed for the sacrifice free of charge. How do you serve God – willingly or grudgingly (cf. 2 Corinthians 9:7).
Similarly, David did not use his position to exploit Araunah. He paid for the land. What does it cost you to serve God acceptably (cf. 2 Corinthians 8:1-4)? Notice the result of David’s sacrifices (vs.26-27). What is the connection between David’s sacrifice and God stopping the plague? God does not eat sacrifices, but he responds to our obedience. When we obey and serve Him sincerely, we obtain His mercy. (1 Samuel 15:22)

• So What? If you are still struggling with making certain sacrifices for God because you think they are too costly, remember that Christ sacrificed his very life for you.
