TOPIC: THE DANGERS OF STRIFE AND COMPETITION

SCRIPTURE: But the queen Vashti refused to come at the king’s commandment by his chamberlains: therefore was the king very wroth, and his anger burned in him. Esther 1:12

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Never struggle in life to create an impression; only struggle to give expression to what God put inside you.

Our anchor scripture reveals that there is a character that makes a loser and there is also a character that makes a winner. Esther 1:1-13 tells us the story of Queen Vashti and her character that made her one of the greatest losers in history.

There is a kind of character to avoid if destiny must be fulfilled.

Today, we shall be looking at one destiny-destroying character from the life of Queen Vashti, and that is the character of strife and competition.

Queen Vashti was literally in competition with her husband (Esther 1:5-9). The king organized a feast, and Queen Vashti also organized a feast at the same time.

Beloved, one of the greatest limitations to life and destiny is competition.

I once heard God’s servant, Bishop David Oyedepo say, “Those who strive for excellence don’t strive with people.” The energy you need for speed in life should not be used for strife; it is not worth it. The truth is that a person’s destination will be limited by competition. Never struggle in life to create an impression; only struggle to give expression to what God put inside you.

What made Lot lose out on his destiny? It was strife with his uncle, Abraham. What made Absalom die before his time? It was strife with his father, David. What led Lucifer out of heaven? He wanted to be like the Most-High. Imagine the creature in competition with the Creator. That is insanity.

Beloved, never compare yourself with anyone; compare yourself with God’s plan for your life. The woman who is married to your husband’s friend is not your competitor. She bought a wrapper, and you want to buy the same wrapper. Her husband bought her a car, and you are putting your husband under pressure to buy you the same kind of car. In life, it is complementation not competition that is needed. That is why our Master, Jesus Christ admonished us in Luke 12:15, And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

Beloved, if you want to reach where God wants you to reach in life and destiny, avoid the spirit of strife and competitive jealousy. It is a character that makes losers.

Remember this: Never struggle in life to create an impression; only struggle to give expression to what God put inside you.

ASSIGNMENT(S):
1. Love everyone around you and wish them well. Refuse to see them as your competitors.

2. Spend time with God to acquire His Nature of love.

3. Examine your heart, if there is any trace of strife and competitive jealousy, let it go now.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to walk in love. I reject the spirit of strife and competitive jealousy, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
