TOPIC: UNDERSTANDING VISION AND PURPOSE

SCRIPTURE: Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. JEREMIAH 1:5.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: A Life without vision is a life without bearing.

Our anchor scripture clearly shows us the fact that God is a God of purpose. His plans and purpose preceded creation. God knows the purpose of everything; He sees the end of things before creating them. At creation God fashioned and wired you for a particular purpose.

For example, in the case of Jeremiah, he was fashioned by God to be a prophet. And not just a prophet, his jurisdiction was expressly clear – a prophet unto the nations.

Beloved, it is important for you to know the boundaries of your vision for the vision and purpose to remain relevant.

Now, vision is the discovery of a man’s place in destiny.

Discovering your place in destiny and running with that discovery is called vision. A life without vision is a life without bearing.

The vision of John the Baptist could have been only to prepare the way for Jesus’s arrival and leave the scene, but he branched into a ministry that cost him his head. Understanding the scope of your vision will help to maintain focus. It will help you channel all your energy towards the actualization of the vision.

It is also crucial to note that vision is time sensitive. It is important to know “the when” of your vision.

For example, Moses’ vision and purpose was to deliver the children of Israel from Egypt, but he stepped out before his time, and he became a target. Moses had to flee to Midian and became a shepherd. It took God’s intervention for Moses to be restored to his original vision after 40 years. Left for Moses, he was done with the vision of being a deliverer.

Another vital thing we need to know about vision is that vision is key to action and motion in life. Habakkuk 2:2 says, …Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. So, vision is the secret of action, it is the secret of motion.
Everywhere vision is lacking, stagnation is constant.

Now, let’s look at some of the key thoughts on vision.

1. Vision is not a decision but a discovery. It is not what you decided to do with your life but your discovery of what God wants you to do with your life.

2. Vision predates creation. Jeremiah 1:5 says, Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee… So, God’s vision for you predates your creation; it is just there waiting for you to discover it.

3. Your vision or purpose of existence is in the Hands of Your Creator. It is your Maker that understands your making and predetermined what you are to do with your life. It is the Maker that knows the reason for a man’s making. Every machine, irrespective of their sophistication, comes with a manual, and that manual explains the manufacturer’s vision or purpose of the machine as well as how to use the machine.

Beloved, if you want to know your purpose or vision in life, ask God, Your Maker to reveal it to you. Refuse to exist without discovering your purpose or vision.

REMEMBER THIS: A life without vision is a life without bearing.
