TODAY’S READING
Isaiah 55:1-9

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
When faced with questions, I will trust in God.

PRAYER FOCUS
Parents of small children

As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. – Isaiah 55:9 (NRSV)

My six-year-old likes to watch Disney Channel movies. However, since English is not our first language, she often asks me questions about the plot or characters. Despite my best efforts, she often finds my explanations confusing because of her limited understanding of the world.

Just as my daughter struggles to comprehend my explanations of her favorite movies, we sometimes find it difficult to understand God’s action and presence in our lives. When we experience hardship or do not see the answer to our prayers, we wonder why God has not responded. This is because God’s ways and our ways are so different. The nature of divinity is impossible for us to fully understand.

We must remember that it is not our responsibility to try to figure out the reason behind God’s actions. We may ask, “Why do you let this happen to me?” But as children of God, we are simply asked to have faith: to fully believe in our divine parent who loves us. We can do this because God’s decisions are always meant for our good.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, help us to believe in your plans even when we do not understand them. Amen.
