THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
With God to help me, I am more than enough.
The Upper Room Devotional 12 April 2022 | Tuesday
Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” And God said, “I will be with you.” – Exodus 3:11-12 (NIV)
I have missed opportunities to share my faith. I turned down an invitation to lead a Bible study. I chose to stay silent when someone was in need of comfort. My reticence came from a deep feeling of being unworthy. Surely God would want a different messenger.
Moses experienced similar reluctance. When God asked him to lead Israel out of slavery, Moses responded with doubt and excuses: “Who am I? I would say the wrong things. What if nobody listens?” God responded by turning the focus away from Moses. God assured Moses, “I will be with you” and taught him the words he should say. When Moses worried that he would be ignored, “God said to Moses, ‘I am who I am.’”
Many of us can relate to Moses and his feelings of fear and inadequacy. Maybe we think we should wait until we feel capable to serve God. This story reminds me of the truth: by ourselves we are never going to be good enough. But God still chooses us. And, in God, we are more than enough. When Moses tried to act on his own, his people rejected him and he was banished from Egypt. But when he returned at God’s command, a nation followed him. With God’s help, we can do whatever God has planned for us.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, we confess our reluctance to follow you and share our faith. Help us to remember that you are with us. Amen.
