TODAY’S READING
Psalm 130:1-8
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
God hears my cries for mercy and help.
The storm comes from its chamber, the cold from the north wind. – Job 37:9 (CEB)
I belong to the Evenki nation who live in Central Siberia. As a result of Christian missions in our village, my wife and I both decided to follow Christ in the early 1990s. Ever since, we have been active as Christian missionaries in our area and Arctic regions. We have gone on mission trips along the Lena River and planted churches in several communities.
One winter, I visited distant villages with a group of fellow Christians. We drove 3500 km in very cold weather — the temperature was -63°C. On a desolate road far from any villages, our vehicle’s engine died. We knew that once the engine cooled down, it would be impossible to start it again at such a temperature. We had no time to think; our survival was at stake.
I started to pray, knowing that God was with us and aware of our situation. Without a clear plan in mind, I disconnected the fuel hose and pumped air into the fuel filter using the air hose. After reconnecting the hoses, the engine started again, and we made it to the next village. Hallelujah! We have often faced dangerous situations in our ministry, but God has always been faithful.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, when we find ourselves in danger, help us to put our hope in you. Amen.
