Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any other Biblical passage that can help me understand this passage better?
The temple building was constructed and finished according to God’s specifications as assigned to Huram‐Abi, the skilful craftsman (vs.7,11). It is good to note that he finished the work he had undertaken for king Solomon (vs.11‐16). Today, there are many who do not approach their work with the seriousness it requires. Christians must show dedication and total commitment to their work as a witness to their profession.
The great bronze altar was used for burnt offerings in the Old Testament but our altar is the cross where Christ was crucified and where redemption of man was accomplished through the shedding of His blood (Hebrews 13:10‐15). The water in the basin for Priests’ washing represents the blood of Jesus Christ shed for our continuous purification (1 John 1:9).
Also, just as the golden lamps provide light in the Old Testament temple, the Word of God in a Christian’s life provides light to direct us aright in all areas of life and into eternity with Jesus (Psalm 119:105). The cross where Jesus died, the blood of Jesus that was shed and the Word of God are indispensable in the building and furnishing of God’s home in a human life.
