Welcome to Today’s Daily Fountain Devotional of the Anglican Church of Nigeria. Daily Fountain is a daily reading devotional for all Anglicans and Non-Anglicans to read, study, share and discuss the Word of God on a daily basis.
TOPIC: SOW TO THE SPIRIT
TEXT: Galatians 6:1-8(KJV)
6:1. Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
6:2. Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
6:3. For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
6:4. But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.
6:5. For every man shall bear his own burden.
6:6. Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.
6:7. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
6:8. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
Anglican Daily Fountain 5 October 2023 STUDY:
Life is full of choices. The scripture enjoins us to “ponder the path of your feet, and … remove your foot from evil” (Prov. 4:26-27). We need to think about our choices and what the consequences of our choices are -corruption, or eternal life! There are those who delude themselves into thinking that God does not know the carnal desires of their hearts or the ungodly imaginations that lurk in the shadows of their minds.
But Paul makes it very clear that God is not mocked by our ungodly ways and secret sins. All sins begin in the thought life. When a temptation comes up as a thought and is accepted, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is full grown (practised), it brings forth death (James 1:14-15). This death is reaping the wages of sin- a spiritual death, where one’s conscience becomes hardened and one cannot discern between good and evil. Hence, one lives in sin.
The rewards for sin come in the form of marital difficulties and divorce, financial difficulties, a mind filled with images of past sinful behaviour, thoughts of regret, anxiety, suspicion, bitterness and discontent. Only Jesus can set us free from all of this and make us free indeed! (John 8:34-36). Why not choose life and avoid suffering and misery? Sow to the Spirit and reap eternal life! Paul tells us that to be spiritually minded is life and peace (Rom. 8:6) If we walk in the Spirit, we will not fulfil the lusts of the flesh (Gal. 5:16-17). May we learn the lesson of sowing and reaping in our lives and avoid walking into trouble by our actions and choices.
PRAYER: Lord, make me a spirit man, that I may walk with you till the end.
