Read and Meditate on Today’s  Scripture Union Daily Guide for Thursday 22 September 2022. May the Lord bless you through His Word, Amen!

Topic: Come Out From Among Her

Opening Prayer: Oh Lord, grant me spiritual insight into the truth of your word as I study it.

Scripture: Revelations 18:1‐24

Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any warning for me to heed?
• What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?

The devastation of Beirut in 2020 was attributed to a careless storage of seized ammonium compounds that had been left unattended by the leadership. If something as little as a chemical could shake a whole city to its foundation with thousands of lives affected, one cannot imagine what the judgment of God would bring. The passage today reminds us that the judgment of God is imminent.

This may be regarded as the destruction of the enemies of God. Notice the evil and wickedness of Babylon and those who belong to her. They will certainly receive their reward. This is a call to the followers of Christ not to participate in their evil. Another level of evil in our text involves Babylon recruiting rulers, kings, and leaders into her wickedness.

Notice their merchandise (vs.11‐13). Some of those leaders’ rule tyrannically over their own people. Do we find leaders with some of these characteristics mentioned here in some nations of the world? There is rejoicing among the saints as they celebrate the fall of Babylon and the triumph over evil because of God’s justice.

Practice/Word Application
Thought: How do we persuade our leaders not to engage in evil rule?

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Pray for nations of the world where the leaders oppress the people.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with
Genesis 27:29; Isaiah 40, 41; Job 10; Psalms 119:73‐88
