The problem with relying on people to validate you, to approve of you, is that people change their opinions. One minute a large crowd of people in Jerusalem was saying to Jesus, “Hosanna! Blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord!” They put palm branches down before Him, celebrating His arrival. A few days later, some of those same people were yelling, “Crucify Him!” If you only feel good about yourself when people are telling you that you’re great, then if they change their minds and walk away, you’ll forget who you are.
If you rely on them to make you feel beautiful, talented, or valuable, you’re letting them control your self-worth. You’ll have to play up to them to try to keep them. But when you know you’re enough all by yourself, when you’re not living from a deficit mindset, it doesn’t matter what people do or don’t do. You know that you have the approval from your Heavenly Father. You know you’re made in His image. You know you’re one of a kind. You know you’re a masterpiece.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
“Father, thank You that I don’t have to look to someone else to tell me who I am, because You have already told me that I am Your masterpiece and prized possession. I declare that my identity and value are securely in Your hands and I’m not looking to others. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
