Don’t go through life expecting the worst, anticipating bad breaks. “This virus is spreading everywhere; I’ll probably get it too. With all these negative influences, my children will probably get off course.” Zip that up. You belong to the Most High God. These things may come, but they’re not going to stay. They’re going to pass on by. Why? You are invisible to the enemy.
Difficulties will come. Pain is a part of life. Keep the right perspective: in those tough times, God is getting you prepared. If it were too much, God would turn back the intensity. Quit telling yourself you can’t take it. You’re not weak. You are well able. You are full of can-do power. You are armed with strength for this battle. God is getting you ready to release blessings, favor, increase like you’ve never seen.

His father always encouraged him to preach, but Joel would politely decline time and time again until one day in October 1999 when his father was admitted to the hospital with kidney complications. Joel finally agreed to preach the next Sunday, and his father passed the following week. Joel’s first sermon was the last his father ever heard. Joel and his wife, Victoria, were suddenly thrust into full-time leadership of Lakewood Church.
