Today’s devotional is a real source of concern for Christians because many Christians are unwary of the problems of idolatry. An idol is anything or person you value so much that it takes the place of God in your life. It is whatever you put first before God. In Exodus 20:3 and 4, God warns against idol worship by His children. Many Christians still think idols are mere carved images; and if they do not have such things at home, they are free from idolatry.
This is a lie of the devil. Modern-day idols are not outside you. They are inside you. They occupy your heart: they are in your mind. A brother bought a beetle carin the 70’s andwasso engrossed in maintaining the car that one day, he dreamt he was carrying the car on his head in the streets. He did not understand the meaning of the dream. It was because he had placed so much value on the car above everything, including God. The head is the symbol of God’s glory in man.
This man placed a car above God,the reason he was carrying it on his head in the dream. You must constantly search your heart to see whether you are hiding any idol there so that you do not offend God. Modern-day idols are those things you crave so much that you forget God. It could be excessive pursuit of comfort and pleasure, entertainment, money, career or job, desires, your wife, husband, children, gift or talent, sex, or every lust of the heart that hinders God’s attention.
How do you dislodge these idols? First, you must be born again. Becoming born again is imperative as step in getting translated from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God. It also frees you from the dominion and authority of satan and idols.
Second, you should search your heart and purify it with the blood of Jesus. You should also renew your mind with the word of God on a daily basis. Do constant prayers that usher in revival. Avoid lust for anything and live a simple life that pleases God. Finally, you should ensure that God takes the first place in everything and in every area of your life.
Memory verse: 1John 5:21 – “Little children keep yourselves from idols.”
Motivational Quote: Searching and purging your heart on a daily basis with the mirror of God’s word will check your negative indulgence.
Prophetic Word: Any power that is striving to control your life against the will of God shall fail, in the name of Jesus.

1. O God, arise and destroy anything You did not plant in my life, in the name of Jesus.
2. By the blood of Jesus, I purify my life from the stain of idols of my father’s house, in the name of Jesus.
3. I shall not succumb to the evil pleasures of my father’s house, in the name of Jesus.
EVENING
4. O Lord, let Your hand destroy every wicked imagination against me, in the name of Jesus.
5. My Father, make me a target of Your divine blessing, in the name of Jesus.
6. O God, arise and make me a good example, in the name of Jesus.
7. Powers that are assigned against me, die, in the name of Jesus.
