Gentleness as a fruit of the Spirit is closely linked to humility. Gentleness is grace of the soul. A Christian should be gentle, soft-spoken, kind-hearted as well as refined in character and conduct. Jesus Christ is known by His gentleness and, you as a child of God, should follow His example.
Gentleness is not weakness. It is self-control. It comes from a state of humility. It is the quality of being kind and gentle. It is when you put others before yourself. It requires humility, sacrifice, patience and being compassionate. Jesus described Himself as gentle in Matt. 11:29. If Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour, is gentle, you as the follower of Christ, must be like Him by manifesting the fruit of the Spirit called gentleness.
It is a fruit of the Spirit and Christian character that God demands from you. It is demonstrating power without undue harshness. It is likened to a wild animal that is tamed. That does not means it has lost its strength, but it has brought it under the control. Rather than using its power to destroy other animals, it has learnt to live in unity with them.

That you exhibit the fruit of gentleness does not mean you are foolish or stupid. The people of this world will always say gentility is not stupidity. Gentleness does not mean that you have relinquished your strength, but it is recognising that you are not the source of power but just an instrument. When God gives you any gifts, you are not meant to be harsh to people and boast about it. Have a gentle spirit like Jesus, who laid aside His heavenly glory and came in form of man to deliver you from sin and to give you eternal life.
He has the power to destroy those soldiers that came to arrest Him, but the Bible says He humbled himself even unto death for your sake and that of the whole world (Phil. 2:8). Anytime you find it difficult to refrain from anger or harshness, ask God work gentleness in your heart and His grace will be sufficient for you, in Jesus’ name.
