6 I Jesus, have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.

MESSAGE: OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 12TH MAY 2021 BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

One of the titles of our Lord Jesus Christ in our Bible reading for today is Root of David. This reminds one of Jesus link to plants and trees. No wonder He said in John 15:1-5 that He is the Vine while we are the branches. In addition to being the Vine, He is the Root. The root of a tree is the most essential part of the tree, yet hidden in the ground.

This implies that as children of God, Jesus is our Root and He is hidden inside of us. Just as a strong wind cannot uproot a tree that has firm roots in the ground, nothing can shake a true child of God. No problem can sweep you away. So, whenever you feel lonely or overwhelmed by any challenge, remember that Jesus is living inside you; you cannot be moved. However, you have to focus on Him. If you lose focus of Him like Peter did when he walked towards Jesus on water (Matthew 14:29-30 ), you will be moved.

Also, do not allow sin or unrighteousness in your life because if you do, He will leave you. Therefore, whatever price you have to pay to remain in Christ, ensure you pay it, so that nothing will move you.

KEY POINT: Your today and future are secure with Christ, your root.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Kings 4-5, John 4:1-54

HYMN: IN CHRIST ALONE

Verse 1

In Christ alone my hope is found;
He is my light, my strength, my song;
This cornerstone, this solid ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My comforter, my all in all—
Here in the love of Christ I stand.

Verse 2

In Christ alone, Who took on flesh,
Fullness of God in helpless babe!
This gift of love and righteousness,
Scorned by the ones He came to save.
Till on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied;
For ev’ry sin on Him was laid—
Here in the death of Christ I live.

Verse 3

There in the ground His body lay,
Light of the world by darkness slain;
Then bursting forth in glorious day,
Up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory,
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me;
For I am His and He is mine—
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

Verse 4

No guilt in life, no fear in death—
This is the pow’r of Christ in me;
From life’s first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.
No pow’r of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home—
Here in the pow’r of Christ I’ll stand.
