“Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.” Exodus 20:12
God gave us the will to make choices on certain things but not the choice of parents, country to be born, when to be born and when to die. Thus, because you didn’t choose the family you were born into, you have no other choice than to respect your parents. I have found out that the rate at which young ones die these days is alarming.
In those days, young ones don’t die as much as they do now and one of the things responsible for this is dishonouring ones parents. Proverbs 20:20 says: “Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.” You don’t have to use abusive words before you dishonour your parents. If you don’t obey them, run errands for them, care for them as you ought to, you dishonour them.
You can honour your parents in many ways: call them as frequently as you can when you are away from home, pray for them, remember their special days and buy gifts for them, love them and show it, don’t talk back or speak rudely to them, no matter how angry you may be. Honour your parents in every way possible, and your days will be long.
Point: Dishonouring your parents can cut your life short.
