TOPIC: THE NEED FOR AN ANCHOR IN TIMES LIKE THESE (2)

CHRIST: THE ANCHOR FOR THE BELIEVERS

TEXT: Ps. 46:1-11; Matthew 14:28-33; Acts 27:13-30; Hebrews 6:18-20.

Memory Verse: “God is our refuge and strength, a very PRESENT HELP IN TROUBLE.” Ps.46:1

You may doubt the ability of medical practitioners to render help at the most critical stage of your life and also doubt the possibility of ever making it in life when in an aircraft, it is announced that the engine has suddenly developed a technical fault and will require crash landing but never doubt the closeness of God to you than the problem itself. The word PRESENT above denotes His being in the full knowledge of what is going on and will act when most appropriate.

The blazing story of the Titanic ship that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on April 15, 1912, could be likened to Paul’s experience in Acts 27. While in the Titanic which was a novel invention beyond human description: a ship that could carry over 1500 passengers with recreational facilities, one of the overwhelmed, pompous and proud fascinated passenger had concluded that even God cannot sink the ship. To their greatest shock, more than 3/4 of the passengers died when the ship hit an iceberg and ended up sinking.

For Paul, he had an anchor, an ever present help wherever (whether in the air, sea or land) he found himself. While the captain of their ship expressed concern over possible lose of lives, Paul assured them that no life shall be lost. Two captains indeed! One spoke from the physical perspective of his earthly knowledge, Paul spoke from the spiritual realm having consulted with heaven through an angelic visitation and it was assured him that God has ruled in his favour.

CHRIST: THE ANCHOR FOR THE BELIEVER. Ps. 40:2-4; Isaiah 43:1-5; John 16:33; Rom.8:35-39; Heb. 6:18-20. An Anchor is a tested and proven heavy object attached to a cable or a chain to keep a boat, ship in place. It restricts and restrains the boat and ship from swinging wildly under the influence of sea waves and totally eliminates the possibility of waves carrying it away.

In the same way, every believer has his roots and entire being anchored on CHRIST the Solid Rock that can never be moved or dissuaded. Storms are likely to show up in the process of life, boisterous times, earth-shaking moments but in the midst of these, we have a sure anchor that can never drift under whatever influence or guise. He is the ancient of days and outlive times and seasons.
Note:

(i) You must abide in Christ if you desire to continually enjoy His rights and privileges as your anchor. Your salvation must not be compromised. John 15:7-11.

(ii) We must understand that as long as we are still on earth, there will be times of storms, moments of trials, seasons of temptation. Yea, in all these, we will come out strong if we continue to uphold Him as our solid Rock, a dependable Refuge and unshakable Redeemer. Rom. 8:35-39.

(iii) In whatever condition you find yourself, always ensure that you do not miss contact with heaven. If it requires weeping, ensure that heaven is still in focus. 1 Sam. 30:4-18. David recovered ALL.
