CHURCH OF THE FIRSTBORN
WEEKLY BIBLE STUDY
April 6, 2021
TOPIC: THE CHRISTIAN AND PRAYER (3) THE ACT OF PRAYER
TEXT: 1 CHRON. 4:9-10; 1 KINGS 17:1; 18:41-46; MARK 5:35-43; ACTS 3:1-7; 4:31.
Memory Verse: “So Ahab went up TO EAT AND DRINK. And Elijah went up TO THE TOP OF CARMEL; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees.” 1 Kings 18:42.
Actions and inactions define and determine who we are, what we can do and how we end. No man born of a woman can be greater than his prayer life.
While Ahab went up to feast and drink, Elijah went up to pray. Whose action between the two do you think can determine the next phase of the nation? Obviously that of Elijah. This is exactly what happens when we pray. Pay particular attention to Elijah’s prayer posture.

The mountain is not a place for gallivanting and sight-seeing neither is it a place of comfort. Men determine the state of the nation on the mountain.
While the modern day church can afford to pray lying down on the RUG that facilitates sleep, men with an intense desire to change the city and affect their own generation pray on the ROCK of the mountain.
While the present day church offers prayer relaxing on their soft sophisticatedly designed upholstery chairs with tea break in between, the church of yesterday did their under harsh environment with fasting.
It was customary for the Apostles to pray and the place is shaken, prison doors opened and incredible miracles witnessed.
We live in the days of miracles and God has graciously given us freedom to write our own Acts 29. Observe that while the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and indeed the epistles and letters written by Paul end with AMEN. Only Acts of the Apostle is OPEN i.e. Without an Amen which implies that God is earnestly waiting for our own Acts 29…to be recorded.
JUST REFLECT ON THESE ACTS
i. Paul and Silas prayed and the prison doors opened on its own accord. Acts 16: 25 – 26.
ii. Peter prayed and Tabitha came back to life. Acts 9:36-40.
iii. Peter and John prayed and the Lame man began to walk. Act 3:1-9
iv. The Church prayed and Peter was miraculously released from prison. Acts 12:1-12.
v. The apostles gave themselves to prayers and the church increased daily. Acts 6:1-4.
There is no situation that prayers cannot answer.
