Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 10 October 2023
We have seen how God used the Assyrians to discipline Israel by allowing them to attack and capture them. However, they became arrogant and proud, thinking that Israel’s God was as powerless as the other nations they had defeated.
Read 10:15-19 again and see how the Assyrians were wrong in their thoughts. In today’s passage, we read about the hope of God’s people. Despite their captivity, a remnant will surely return to their homeland. These are those who will faithfully trust the Lord to deliver them (v.20). God sent the prophet Isaiah to offer them hope (v.25). Hope that God’s anger will end. He reminded them of their past triumphs (vs.26-27).
We should, as Christians have such hope to be part of the remnant at the coming of the Lord. We might go through various forms of discipline. The hymn writer says, “His love in time past, forbids me to think, He’ll leave me at last in trouble to sink” (John Newton). We must endure and faithfully trust the Lord to deliver us. We can be sure to be part of the remnant at the Lord’s coming.
