Scripture Union Daily Guide 10th May 2024 OUTLINE
“He was numbered with us” (v.17). One wonders if, as the disciples gathered in Jerusalem, Peter thought of the parable of the lost sheep. There were some 120 of them, but there was someone missing, someone who had had a part in the ministry (v.17). But now he was lost. His fate was worse than that of lost sheep. The tragedy of Judas was not his betrayal of Jesus. Peter denied Him. It was not because he had the reputation of stealing (John 12:4-6). It was that he could not find his way back to God through repentance as Peter did. Are you struggling with guilt and fear? Then turn to God in true repentance.
Note the qualification the person who is to replace Judas should possess (vs.21-22). See the reason for this in 1 Timothy 3:7.
Notice the role of prayer and action in the election of the new Apostle (vs.23-26). When conducting an election in your group or Church, do you really pray for God’s guidance? And do you pray for them after their election? ’Lots’ were stones or sticks employed to recognize God’s will (Nehemiah 11:1). This, however, was the last time they were used by the Apostles. With the coming of the Holy Spirit, there appears to be no more need for it.
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
