Today’s Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 13 December 2022

After restoring the temple worship, Hezekiah’s next step was to send out written invitations to all Jews in both Judah and Israel (Samaria) for the celebration of the Passover feast which commemorated the release of the Jewish people from the Egyptian bondage. Ordinarily, the Passover was traditionally celebrated in the first month (Exodos 12:1‐28), but Hezekiah moved it to the second month because the repair and consecration of the Temple was still underway (see 29:1‐17).

Hezekiah wanted to unite the people spiritually even though they were politically divided. The Jewish people had a common ancestry and a common worship, and it was time to put the Lord first, forget past differences and celebrate the goodness of the Lord together. The repeated words “turn again” and “return” reveal the desire of Hezekiah’s heart (vs.6,9). If the people would all turn in repentance to God, God would return to bless His people.

Hezekiah built his appeal around the words of God to Solomon in 2 Chronicles 7:14. Here was an opportunity to make a new beginning and glorify the Lord by seeking His compassion, grace and mercy (v.9). Notice, however, the different responses to his message (vs.10‐12). Many may mock you when you dare to call them to repent while others may respond positively. Whatever, be assured that your ministry is never in vain.
