Scripture Union Daily Guide 13th December 2020 – The Righteous Will Live By Faith

You are reading Today’s Scripture Union Daily Guide Devotional for Sunday 13th December 2020. Be inspired by today’s reading. God bless you!

TOPIC: THE RIGHTEOUS WILL LIVE BY FAITH

Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, I request that you help me to encounter you as I meditate on your word.

Scripture: Galatians 3:1–14

Reflection:
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• What is God revealing to me in this passage?

MESSAGE: Scripture Union Daily Guide 13th December 2020

What truth is Paul seeking to bring out of this message to the Galatians? Three of his five arguments to prove that a person is justified only by faith in Jesus Christ (2:16) are recorded in today’s passage. The arguments are from (a) the Galatians’ experience (vv.1–5); (b) Abraham’s experience (vv.6–9); and (c) the implications of Christ’s death on the cross (vv.10–14).

Through these arguments, Paul seeks to show the foolishness of turning from faith in Christ to depending on obedience of the law. The Judaizers claimed that since Jesus is the promised seed of Abraham, anyone who would become a Christian must also be circumcised like Abraham.

But Paul proves here that it is not the children by blood but by faith that truly belong to Abraham (vv.6–9). It is only through faith in Jesus that men of all ages are blessed with Abraham. In v.10, having shattered the Jews confidence in their physical relationship to Abraham, he continued to show that the law brings a curse.

It is not possible for anyone to keep all the laws. Therefore, bondage is the result. See Deuteronomy 27:26.

⁂ Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Practice/Word Application:
• So what? Meditate on vv.13–14 throughout the day and thank the Lord for taking your curse upon himself on the cross. How will the removal of the curse affect the way you live?

Compassion: Compassion is the act of showing mercy or kindness. It is a strong, loving sympathy, pity and sadness for the suffering or misfortune of others and a desire to help them. It is compassion, not selfish ambition that prompted the Lord Jesus Christ to use His power to intervene in the sufferings of individuals and multitudes, as in feeding 5000 and 4000 men.

Prayer:
• Lord help me to live by faith.
• Thank God for the blood of Jesus that was shed for our salvation and total deliverance.
• Offer a prayer of faith in line with 2 Chronicles 20:12

Read The Bible In One Year: Josh. 10–12; Luke 16
