Scripture Union Daily Guide 14 November 2025 Outline

In Jeremiah 4:19-21, Jeremiah, like Samuel (1 Samuel 15:35-,16:1) continues to agonize and mourn for Judah. Why and what can we learn from this?

Sin has grievous consequences (Jeremiah 4:18; Romans 6:23). Nothing can be compared with the devastation of war (see Jeremiah 4:20,23-26,27,29-31). Evidence of this can be seen in many countries of Africa. Instead of apportioning blame to our political leaders, we should, like Jeremiah, bear the burden to pray for true repentance and restoration of our nations. See 2 Chronicles 7:14; 1 Timothy 2:1-4.

According to Jeremiah 4:22, what was responsible for Judah’s disobedience? Is this not the same reason for ungodliness in our churches and society? Most times, people are ignorant of the consequences of their actions. Like Jeremiah, believers should be mindful that many people lack the knowledge of God and the implications of their sinful acts (Jeremiah 4:22-24; Hosea 4:6).

Prevention is better than cure. When people reject God’s warnings, destruction is sure. And no human efforts and sacrifices can save or restore what God has planned to destroy (Jeremiah 4:25-30). It is indeed a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Hebrews 10:30-31).
