Scripture Union Daily Guide 16th May 2026 Outline

This Psalm is a heartfelt expression of gratitude for God’s deliverance. The psalmist states his reasons for the heartfelt worship in Psalms 116:1-2. He called and God responded in mercy. Has God answered your prayers? Has that deepened your love for Him? Read Psalms 116:3-11 again. Here, the psalmist recounts his desperate situation, and how God rescued him.

In many parts of Africa, we face a lot of life-threatening situations comparable to or even worse than that of the Psalmist. These verses remind us that our God is compassionate and gracious, always ready to save us, so we should not be tired of calling on Him. In response to the mercy and faithfulness of God, the psalmist vows to walk before the Lord in faith and thanksgiving. He acknowledges that his life belongs to God and offers a sacrifice of praise (Psalms 116:12-14,17-19).

Think of some practical and appropriate ways to show gratitude and offer “sacrifices of thanksgiving” to the Lord for His goodness. What can we learn from Psalms 116:15, especially when God calls home our loved ones whom we know are His faithful servants?

Closing Prayer
Thank you, dear Lord, for being gracious to me, always delivering me from my troubles. Help to always reciprocate your love with a grateful heart of worship and thanksgiving.

Prayer of Faith
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Isaiah 43:1

Prayer for the Week
Pray for Christians who are relocating to greener pastures, that they will take time to seek God’s face for instruction and not just succumb to pressure. Pray for those whose present location is not ordained by God, for them to humbly retrace their steps before it’s too late.

One Year Bible Reading Plan
Psalms 3-4, Psalms 12-13, Psalms 28, Psalms 55
