Scripture Union Daily Guide 18 December 2025 Outline

The joy of finding grapes in the desert and early fruit of fig tree can be compared with that of seeing Israel giving herself to God in covenant relationship at Mount Sinai (Hosea 9:10; Deuteronomy 32:10). This is similar to giving your life to God in salvation. She became the apple of God’s eyes. But this overwhelming joy was cut short by Israel’s return to idol worship. What will be the result of it (Hosea 9:11-12)? Her glory of large population and prosperity will be no more, down to her children. Can you describe the pains of unfaithfulness in terms of losing one’s treasures?

God rejects and abandons His people due to wickedness, rebellion, sin (Hosea 8:16-17). God never tolerates sin even among believers. Israel/Ephraim became “wanderers among nations”.
These calamities befell old and young, male and female, ruler and follower, man and beast. Read the warning in Hebrews 10:31. When people depart from God, they only get worse, until they repent and seek God’s forgiveness. Was Israel relying on rituals or history? Why did they keep straying despite God’s anger and discipline? Godly backgrounds do not guarantee present blessings. We must personally walk daily and steadily with God.
