Scripture Union Daily Guide 2nd July 2020 – God Keeps His Covenants
TODAY’S TOPIC: GOD KEEPS HIS COVENANTS
OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, may the entrance of your word bring light and life to all I will do today.
SCRIPTURE: Psalm 105: 1– 23
1 O give thanks unto the Lord; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people.
2 Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works.
3 Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord.
4 Seek the Lord, and his strength: seek his face evermore.
5 Remember his marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;
6 O ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob his chosen.
7 He is the Lord our God: his judgments are in all the earth.
8 He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations.
9 Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac;
10 And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant:
11 Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance:
12 When they were but a few men in number; yea, very few, and strangers in it.
13 When they went from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people;
14 He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes;
15 Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.
16 Moreover he called for a famine upon the land: he brake the whole staff of bread.
17 He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant:
18 Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron:
19 Until the time that his word came: the word of the Lord tried him.
20 The king sent and loosed him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free.
21 He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance:
22 To bind his princes at his pleasure; and teach his senators wisdom.
23 Israel also came into Egypt; and Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham.
Reflection
• Is there any command for me to obey?
• What is God revealing to me in this passage?
TODAY’S OUTLINE: DAILY GUIDE 2ND JULY 2020
The Psalmist calls on his compatriots to praise and glorify God for the great things he has done for them and amongst them. These deeds were anchored on his covenant with their patriarchs (vv.9–10). Mention some of the things God did for which they were to praise him.
Identify some things in your experience for which you owe God praise. From vv.1–5, what specific things are we supposed to do in recognition and appreciation of God’s blessings? God’s covenant with Israel was to give them the land of Canaan as their inheritance (v.11).
While they were few, strangers and wanderers, he protected them from oppression and annihilation (vv.12–14a). He even warned kings not to touch them because they were his anointed (separated) people (vv.14b–15). In Christ, Christians have a better inheritance – heaven, and God is determined to protect them from every evil.
Have you repentantly surrendered to Christ, and are you separated to him? Read vv.16–23 again: At a time of recession and economic down–turn, Joseph was sent ahead to prepare for their welfare and preservation. On his part, he suffered all manner of distress and discomfort, but he fulfilled God’s purpose.
God always plans and makes provision ahead to ensure he fulfils his covenant promise and like Joseph, whatever we experience has a purpose (Romans 8:28). We must remain patient, steadfast and separated unto God to ensure victory.

Practice/Word Application
• Reflection: “I am the Lord I changeth not”
Prince of Peace
1. Prince of Peace, control my will;
Bid the struggling heart be still;
Bid my fears and doubtings cease,
Hush my spirit into peace.
2. May Thy will, not mine, be done;
May Thy will and mine be one;
Chase these doubtings from my heart,
Now Thy perfect peace impart.
Today’s Prayer
• Thank you God, for your immense blessings on my life. Help me to be truly separated to you.
• Pray against sexual exploitation and religious intimidation in IDP/refugee camps; pray for the Christians among them to withstand such pressures; also ask for adequate provision and protection in these facilities.
• Offer a prayer of faith in line with Exodus 12:13
Read the Bible in one Year: Deut. 19–21; Acts 5:1–21
