Scripture Union Daily Guide 18th January 2022 Devotional Note

Notice the reason God poured out His wrath upon His people in vs.16‐18. Sin is very offensive to our God and carries serious consequence. God judged the people of Judah by throwing them out of the land He gave them. But they were God’s people, and His name was closely linked with them. Their enemies thought they were able to defeat them because the Lord God of Israel was weaker than their gods. God’s name was therefore dragged in the mud. How we too dishonour God’s name when we live in disobedience to His command. But God decided it is time to bring restoration to Israel.

Notice His reason for doing this (vs.21‐22). God will show the holiness of His great name through the restoration of His people so that all nations may know that He is the Lord (v.23). There are various aspects of His restoration including cleansing them from the sin of idolatry (v.25) and replacing their hearts of stone with the heart of flesh, His Spirit (vs.26‐27). Identify others in vs.29‐36. Are you part of God’s plan to make His holiness known?

Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• I thank you, dear Lord, for your mercy and for demonstrating the holiness of your great name in my life.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with
Isaiah 65:24; Genesis 30, 31, Psalms 13
