Scripture Union Daily Guide 19 June 2024 Outline:
In a distinguished mark of humility, Paul speaks about (his) vision and mission (v.1). Note however that he chooses to speak in the third person (v.2). Many tend to boast about their experiences with God. Paul teaches us that what ultimately matters is the transformed life and powerful ministry that flow from that (vs.5-6).
Paul prayed for deliverance three times (v.8). Which other Bible passage does this remind you of? Like Paul, sometimes, despite our persistent prayers, the Lord does not deliver us from our challenges. Does it mean He does not care about us, or we have sinned; arguments that some people readily put forward?
However, God has promised us His grace. It is to our advantage because it makes us constantly dependent on Him. The weaker we are in our own strength and capabilities, the more His grace is evident in our lives (vs.9-10).
What lesson do you learn from v.11? Standing up in the defence of people when they are slandered, especially those who are God’s instruments of goodness to us, is something each of us is called to do.
Practice/Word Application
So what? No one is immune to the danger of pride. What can you put in place to avoid falling into the trap?
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer
Thank you, Lord, that I can overcome every challenge because your grace is ever abundant and sufficient for me.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalms 141:2
“Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.”
