* Q7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 19th July 2024 Outline:
Our God is a holy and a jealous God who punishes sin. He sees sin as dishonour, perversion, wickedness, disgrace, impurity, profanity, detestable, etc. Sin is repulsive to God, and He abhors it and all those who live in it. He hates and punishes sin because of His holy nature. Punishment for sin fell under three categories, Identify the sins in each category.
* Capital punishment/death penalty (vs.1-16)
* Banishment or exile (vs.17-18)
* Barrenness (vs.19-21)
God punishes sin appropriately. Everyone will receive according to what he has done in his body (2 Corinthians 5:10, Romans 2:5-11). The Canaanites, “did all these things” (v.23) and were banished from the land. Through Israel, God wanted to build a nation who would obey Him and make a positive influence on the world (vs.7-8, 24-26). Unfortunately, Israel too failed and was punished.
Despite the sinfulness of man, however, God has always been gracious. He calls us to Himself and commands us to obey Him (v.8). He warns us not to take His blessings for granted and not to copy or adopt the customs of the people of this world (vs. 22-23). God says graciously, “You shall be holy and belong only to me” (v.26).
Practice/Word Application
What next? Meditate carefully on God’s special invitation and promise to you in v.26. How will you respond to Him today?
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
