Scripture Union Daily Guide 20 December 2025 Outline

God loves Israel as any father would love a son. He saved them from slavery in Egypt. Yet, they loved the ways of Egypt and did not care about His love (Hosea 11:1-4). Israel was about to be taken as slaves into Assyria. God was about to punish them for their attitude towards Him, yet it hurts God to punish them so.

Note that God resolved to punish them for one reason (Hosea 11:5-7)! But, with God there is mercy. Though He is God of justice, His love is stronger. Therefore, though, like a father, He pities His children (see Psalms 103:13), He disciplines those He loves (see Hebrews 12:10). He promises that He will not punish them forever but will overpower the enemies, release His people from captivity and bring them back to their homeland (Hosea 11:8-11).

That is the God we serve! The hymn writer says, “His love in time past, forbids me to think He’ll leave me at last in trouble to sink.” God does not love like man and so His love for us cannot change.

And So
“Let the Lord have His way, in your life every day; .
There’s no rest, there’s no peace, until the Lord has His way. .
Place your life in His hands, rest secure in His plan. .
Let the Lord, Let the Lord have His way!” (SU Chorus).
