Scripture Union Daily Guide 20th February 2022 Message

Go back and read the first 6 verses of the chapter. When Jesus Christ sent out these same disciples two by two to proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom, He had given them “power and authority” to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, (v.1). That was exactly what they did at the time, (v.6). What was different now? Why could they not heal this demon‐possessed child, (v.40)? When we too pray, thank God, some are healed, but why is it that many are not healed? Sometimes it is the fault of the people for lacking the faith to be healed, (e.g. Matthew 13:58).

In this instance, Jesus gave a different reason in v.41. He rebuked the disciples as “you unbelieving and perverse generation”. This shows that the faithlessness of the disciples were to blame. It is important, therefore, not to lay the blame only on the faithlessness of the victim. In Mark 9:29, we have another reason, when Jesus Christ recommended “prayer and fasting” (NKJV). However, sometimes, for reasons we do not understand, God chooses not to heal sick people, (e.g. the multitude in John 5:3).

Practice/Word Application
