Scripture Union Daily Guide 24th January 2025 Outline

The Passover commemorates the process by which the death sentence against the first born in Egypt “passed over” the Israelites. It is also a celebration of their subsequent deliverance from slavery. Anyone who fails to observe the Passover was cut off from among God’s people (Numbers 9:13). Notice how Moses handled the difficult case of the defiled men. They reported themselves to him (Numbers 9:6).

Moses was not with them when they became defiled. However, convicted and desiring to obey the word of God, they came and confessed to Moses. Certain secret sins that make us restless under conviction should be confessed to God and possibly brought to the knowledge of our leaders so they can guide us to deal with our guilt (James 5:16). Moses sought God’s guidance, a good example for us to follow. A stranger can also participate in the celebration but notice the condition attached to this (Numbers 9:14).

Read Numbers 9:15-23 again and notice how God guided the Israelites each step of the way to the Promised Land. They took each step in constant dependence on Him! Why do you think God chose a cloud to guide them? The guidance of this cloud is said to signify the guidance of the blessed Spirit (see Isaiah 63:14). And the promise is sure to all God’s people that He will guide us by His counsel (Psalms 73:24), even unto death (Psalms 48:14).
