When lust made David, the man who refused to kill Saul, his archenemy, each time he had the opportunity to do so because he would not lay his hand on the Lord’s anointed (1 Samuel 24:10), to kill Uriah, his loyal soldier (vs.14-15)! When we commit sin and refuse to repent and confess for forgiveness, it grows in progression and becomes a cancer! As a loyal military commander, Joab executed this evil assignment from his Commander in Chief without questioning, and sent David the report (vs.16-24)! In our days, when many church leaders have become so powerful that they seem to be above reprove and correction, we must be courageous enough to insist on obeying the Lord rather than men (see Acts 5:28-29).
Think of David’s response to the report he received (vs.25-26)! For David, it was mission accomplished, and he brought Bathsheba home as a wife, but God was utterly displeased with him. Imagine the trauma Bathsheba must have passed through all this time from the sexual violence to killing of her loving husband and now to marry the same man (vs.26-27)!
And so? “Abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul” (1 Peter 2:11)
Prayer:
Lord, deliver me from falling into temptation in my daily walk and work with you.
