Scripture Union Daily Guide 25 June 2024 Outline:

The word leprosy in the Old Testament had a broad meaning that covered several infectious skin diseases. If anyone had signs or any semblance of leprosy, they are taken to the priest for thorough examination to determine their true state. If found to be leprosy or any semblance of it, they are excluded from the religious activities of the community and isolated from the camp till they were healed and ceremonially cleansed. We went through similar isolation system during the Corona virus (COVID-19) period.

Infectious disease is symbolic of sin and just like the disease shows different kinds of symptoms even so does sin in our lives (Galatians 5: 19-21). If we allow sin in our lives, it will keep us away from fellowship with our heavenly Father both now and in eternity.

What can we learn from this passage about how to handle sin in the community of believers? When we leave sin to fester in our communities, eventually everyone associated with the sinner gets infected and affected. We must learn to deal with sin before our morality hits rock-bottom (1 Corinthians 5:6, Galatians 5:9).
The priest pronounces people clean and sets them free. Jesus died to take away our sins and when we come to Him in repentance, He cleanses us and sets us free.
