Scripture Union Daily Guide 25th January 2026 — Outline
Jesus regularly confronted the religious leaders over their views on the traditions and regulations of men. One of such was their rules on observance of the Sabbath without regard for the Lord of the Sabbath. Are there ways we behave like these leaders in our Christian circles today (Luke 6:6-7; Matthew 15:8). For the Pharisees, Jesus did not fit into their religious mould, and this made them not to accept Him or His teachings.
We may also disregard Christ today because of the same reason. Read Luke 6:3-5 and 1 Samuel 21:1-6 and highlight the lessons inherent there. Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath because He instituted it and therefore He knows its intended purpose to man.
The struggle over what it means to keep the Sabbath holy surfaced again in the healing of this man with a shrivelled hand (Luke 6:7). Notice the wisdom Jesus applied to silence these religious leaders (Luke 6:8-9). Are there any practices in our denominations and fellowship groups that we need to test with Jesus’ question in Luke 6:9? We cannot afford to adhere to a set of rules and regulations that seeks to neglect the needs of the people around us.

TAKE MY LIFE AND LET IT BE
1. Take my life, and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days;
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.
2. Take my hands, and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet, and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee.
3. Take my voice, and let me sing
Always, only, for my king.
Take my lips, and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee.
4. Take my silver and my gold;
Not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect, and use
Every power as Thou shalt choose.
5. Take my will, and make it Thine;
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is Thine own;
It shall be Thy royal throne.
6. Take my love, my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself, and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee.
Closing Prayer
I thank you, God, for the freedom we have in your Son, Christ Jesus.
