MESSAGE: Scripture Union Daily Guide 26th September 2020

Notice how the church in Thessalonica received the word of God (v.13). The word of God has a transforming effect on people whose hearts are open to it. Let us also receive and cherish it. The preaching of the word by the apostle had effect upon him and his fellow labourers.

It was a constant cause of thankfulness (v.13). As a result of the effect of the word, members of the church in Thessalonica were examples to others in faith and good works. Where God is building up, Satan will try to break down. In what ways did he try to do this in vv.14b–16a?

One characteristic of a genuine conversion is the readiness to face opposition and suffering like our Lord Jesus Christ, the prophets of old and the apostles did. In the closing verses of this chapter, in addition to this letter, Paul expressed his desire to visit the Thessalonians (vv.17–19).

Why is it important for us to visit those whom we have led to the Lord? Compare Acts14:21–23.

Prayer:
• Pray for missionaries working in difficult places and churches that are going through persecutions, that they may remain faithful.
• Thank God for your place of work/business/study.
• Offer a prayer of faith in line with Jeremiah 24:7
