Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 27 April 2023
Notice God’s command to Moses and the Israelites (vs.1,2). God demands offerings from His people. It is not as if he needs any of these materials. They are required for the building of the Tabernacle and the Ark of Covenant. Contributions were completely voluntary: “everyone whose heart prompts them to give.” Vs.3-7 outlined the offerings people could bring. They were such that every willing person could give something as an offering to God; whether rich or poor. The items range from expensive minerals to common household items.
V.8 explains the utter importance of this project to Israel – God offered to dwell among His people, even during their journey through the wilderness, so they needed to prepare adequately! Today, God has made this even more personal and intimate through Christ (1 Corinthians 3:16-17; 6:19-20). Thus, Moses and the people had to comply strictly/diligently (v.9). Creativity and innovation are good in worship and service, but these must be guided by the Word of God. God specified what to produce, materials to use, their shapes and sizes, etc (vs.10-20).
Like the Ark made of wood but completely overlaid with gold inside and outside, so also God’s grace covers our sinful feebleness with His righteousness through Jesus Christ. We become partakers of His holiness by grace.
