Topic: Give thanks to the Lord for He is good
Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, I request that you help me to encounter you as I meditate on your word.
Psalm 107:1–22
Reflection :
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• What is God revealing to me in this passage?
TODAY’S MESSAGE: Scripture Union Daily Guide 27th August 2020
Read vv.1–3 which serve as the introductory verses to this Psalm. “The redeemed of the Lord” are those who have faith in God and through life’s difficulties have experienced God’s deliverance and help. The passage applies first to post–exiled Israelites who, after their numerous troubles, were gathered back to their land (v.3).
The extension may be made to all genuine believers in Christ Jesus; those who have experienced true deliverance from sin and hell, and are walking with God. There are four groups of people who are called upon by the Psalmist to give thanks in a special way to the Almighty God who helped them when they called upon him in their troubles.
There are those who wandered in desert wastes (v.4), those who sat in darkness and in the shadow of death (v.10), and those who were fools through their sinful ways and their iniquities (v.17). What did these people do to secure their deliverance? See vv.6,13 and 19.
In human societies today, we may find all these kinds of people. Are you in trouble of any kind? Do not throw your hands up in despair. Cry onto the Lord and he will deliver you.
⁂ Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Practice/Word Application :
• And So? Cry to the Lord in your trouble today
Hymn: Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice
1. Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice,
All ye that are upright in heart;
And ye that have made Him your choice,
Bid sadness and sorrow depart.
Refrain
Rejoice, rejoice,
Be glad in the Lord and rejoice;
Rejoice, rejoice,
Be glad in the Lord and rejoice
2. Be joyful, for He is the Lord,
On earth and in Heaven supreme;
He fashions and rules by His word–
The ‘Mighty’ and ‘Strong’ to redeem.
Prayer :
• Lord Jesus, we pray that many will find your help in their lives.
• Pray against the spiritual strongholds militating against peace and unity in Nigeria.
• Offer a prayer of faith in line with John 15:7
